I have almost all my forum images hosted on my Photobucket account. From banner to menu buttons to smileys to topic icons.....everything!
I've visited my Photobucket and I've noticed a sudden increase in bandwidth just these past 10 days: from 44% to 68% at this moment. During the 4 months that had passed, the increase in bandwidth was slower than this...until Christmas break. If it's because of the activity of forum members that see the images whenever they browse the forum, well.......could it be??
The bandwidth meter from my Photobucket account says it's 68% used. What should I do to remedy this situation before the bandwidth exceeds?? Also, can anyone provide a better image hosting site? Do TinyPic, Imageshack, or others provide better bandwidth than Photobucket?
Any helps, tips, advice shall be very much appreciated because I need to do something before everything shows up as "Bandwidth Exceeded", and I NEVER want THAT to happen.... >_<

Hmmm, I can't really help you with this LR, since we use our "own" server to host all IOD images. It is interesting though. I do use Photobucket for all "GFX requests related" images and for all my test forums and my bandwidth usage is less than 1%. I would like to see some reactions from other members who use Photobucket. (yeah, that includes you Venom )

Hi Luny, the first thing that I would have to ask, is if your account is public or private. Even if private, people sometimes can still hotlink to your images if they know how. (Image security codes like the ones you can get here, make more difficult for people to do so, then they would have to actually view the source code to get the images url.) Now I'm not exactly certain how hotlinking images effects accounts at photobucket, but I do know that a member at my site has a ton of people who hotlink his images and he is constantly receiving emails from photobucket about it. (And he has a paid account with photobucket.) If, and I stress if, hotlinking your images is the cause for the increased usage, you could always set your account to private, and create a few new folders then re-upload your images to those new folders, and delete the old ones. This would effectively break any hotlinked connections. And I would also use image security codes at your site as well. But this is just my best guess, I can't say for certain that is where your extra usage is coming from or not.

Venom, can you give us the "bandwidth usage" percentage for your Photobucket account? Is it anywhere near LR's percentage?

Okay, here's my Photobucket's account status: Account Type: Free Total Files: 439 Account Storage Used: 17 MB (3%) Account Bandwidth Used: 7.1 GB (71%) >__<;; I'm worried that it might hit the bandwidth limit pretty soon... D: Alright, now here's my album settings. I might have made mistakes here.. I've set it to Private but the rest of the settings were default. Images link back to album? Checked on checkbox Automatically rotate my images? Checked Allow others to copy my media? Checked Allow others to see image location? Checked Now....among the four options.. If any options need to be unchecked to or anything, would it help? Also, at Purevenom: When you suggested Image Security codes, codes that don't allow users to right-click the image? Or the code you mentioned works differently? Come to think of it....my storage used is only 17 MB. I could RE-UPLOAD all my forum's images into new folders, but first I still need to hear your thoughts about my reply, guys. Thank you so much!

Come to think of it....my storage used is only 17 MB. I could RE-UPLOAD all my forum's images into new folders, but first I still need to hear your thoughts about my reply, guys. Thank you so much! Your total files = 439......Your Bandwith Used 7.1 GB (71%) My total files = 1,157 ......My Bandwith Used 62 MB (0%) *Bandwith Limit: 10 GB My Settings: Account - Private, Account Type: Free Automatically rotate my images - Un-Checked Allow others to copy my media - Un-Checked Allow others to see image location - Un-Checked Yes the image security codes do not allow for anyone to right click onto an image to save it. There is also a more advanced code here, that will do the same, but also will not allow people to quote a post in order to view an image's source code. (They can still quote the post, but the images url will not be present in the quote.) I use that code at my site. If the cause of your high bandwith usage is from people hotlinking your images, then I would suggest that you create new folders for all of your images. Re-upload the images into the newly created folders. Then delete all of the old images. It's a lot of work and a big pain in the rear, but I can think of no other reason than your images being hotlinked. Hotlinking images is also why every graphics site you visit, will always ask you to re-host the image. I got this from the photobucket support site. Hope that this helps and that you get the problem resolved. Don't hesitate to ask if I can be of any help. - PUREVENOM

My Settings: Account - Private, Account Type: Free Automatically rotate my images - Un-Checked Allow others to copy my media - Un-Checked Allow others to see image location - Un-Checked
Just wanted to back-up what Venom has here. Your account definitely needs to be made Private! Also make sure you change what I have hi-lighted in red. Allowing others to copy your media and see image location is a huge problem. The way you have your account set up at the moment is allowing Google and other search engines to scan your albums and pull your images into their searches. Those searches give the user your image information for them to be able to hot-link those pictures. So it's not necessarily people on your forums per say .. it could be people all over the world just randomly finding your pics and using them.

I had taken care of all the Photobucket album I had now... I have a few,2 private ones(The 1st one apparently exceeded storage by a lot, that i don't even bother to delete them now..There are 6 years worth of pictures collecting there...And I collect pictures like crazy...) and one for my forum...I changed all of that. And will totally remind my friends of that... Apparently,it's not that other search engine that caused the bandwidth to exceed,it's that I affiliate too much and I provided them the link..How stupid of me...

Thank you, PureVenom, and also, thank you to BluEyz, our Dear Admin, from all the tips you provided. I have went ahead and transferred the top most viewed pictures from my album into new accounts. I've updated all their links into my forum and finally, deleted the images from my original Photobucket account. I now have multiple accounts where I host my images. The bandwidth usage from my original account stopped increasing (I think?) But I've checked my account's image stats and the most viewed images are slowly dropping from the chart, after I broke the links by deleting the images. That included the URL of my avatar here... *fixes* Uhm, I've already unchecked the three options in the settings from all my Photobucket accounts. Although the new accounts already have 1 MB storage used, they now have more than 100 MB in bandwidth usage even with all these settings applied.. :x I've updated the link to my affiliate mini-banner which can be found on the welcome table of my forum. As for all the other mini-banners scattered around different forums (including here), I'm working on updating the affiliate codes too..

Never really messed with imageshack too much myself. I'm sure someone here will be able to give some more insight into their service.

Unfortunately I can't be of much help either, since I've never used Imageshack myself. But I wouldn't imagine them being to much different than Photobucket. I'd just make certain that your account settings do not allow for others to copy your media and/or see your images locations. And that your account is private not public.
