That may very well be the case. I re-registered on Jan. the 27th. I can't seem to modify any post made before then. But if I do a search for my 45 most recent posts, it will display posts that I made before the 27th, obviously displaying them as my posts. I have a member at my site who has recently re-registered, I'll ask her if she has the modify option on her old posts.

The above pic is a direct screenshot of one of my Photobucket folders. The images on the left were uploaded today, the one's on the right (with the red circle) were uploaded almost 4 weeks ago (and at that time they looked exactly like the one's on the left). I wanna bet these newly uploaded pics are gonna get distorted within 4 weeks also......

We'll try to track this one down...Hey purevenom. Try THIS link. It is a direct link to modify your #2 post. Does it work? I can modify my posts OK. And I just wanna ask, what type of GIF Ikat is saving into Photobucket?I uploaded animated images there all the time, and none of this happen.

The girl at my site that I mentioned earlier, well she cannot modify her posts that she made before she had left the first time. So it's not a problem with anything. The above pic is a direct screenshot of one of my Photobucket folders. Nor do any of my other gif images. Those same avatars are still displaying perfectly at the test I set up at my site. EDIT: SubDevo combined double post.

More paranoid than you? I didn't think that was possible.
I was going with Photobucket being the source problem as well. I checked the file size for the latest avatar I uploaded and it was correct. Viewing the properties of the identical avatars (Now have five of them in there), their files size was slightly smaller. Which tells me that photobucket is the source problem. What I haven't figured out yet, is why we're see'ing the deterioration here, but it doesn't show at my site. And I've had that test going since Jan. the 25th.
So did photobucket say anything about how close they are to fixing the problem?
Ikat - Let me know who you spoke to over there and your account details and I'll get you your account back.

Maybe the good image is still in your browsers cache? If you clear all your temp files, maybe the issue would show up in your test sites. Dang purevenom... you get some of the strangest problems!

Considering that image is extremely close to 1mb in file size, I'd assume the original is probably that or more. Photobucket only allows a max size of 1mb per file upload. So that means they will resize any image down to what the max file size you have selected in your account. When they resize, you're gonna lose image quality for sure.

Which is why I'd recommend hosting big stuff on www.majhost.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgiThe uploader is a bit meh, but other than that it's a pretty decent host. I don't know if they have any limits, but the biggest bastard I have on there is 1920x1200 in pixels, and weighs 4.30MB roughly. proof

Hmm,I learned to host big Animated stuffs in ImageShacks these days, they are quite good in my opinion. I am not sure what happened to Photobucket, they used to be really user friendly before, like 2 years ago?I personally have my personal account uploaded with many pictures -- over 20000 pictures maybe? And the files upload can be any size...
Oh well......
@blueyz, Erm you can see even PUREVENOM and his avatars also have the same thing happened to it.And the quality of my friend's banner is like PUREVENOM,it's getting lower quality with each of the day passed.
@marx Wow,Thanks,I can try that host for big files upload then.Thank you~!

Since more then 70% of the images have been removed, I can't give a true opinion. Try DivShare. No distortion and you get 5 gigs of space. there are a few downloads restrictions, but 5 gigs for a free host is pretty nice. No bandwidth restrictions.

This is an old thread, but I am re-opening it for a specific reason. Yes, Photobucket will mess up your images. So new site owners need to be aware of this issue.
I have a graphic busy site and do support work on a graphics tutorial site. Since the threads keep the work of the students for a long time, I have noticed a definite deterioration effect occuring over time, which I attribute to ongoing compression.
But it isn't only Photobucket. TinyPic is even worse, which is why I am bringing this up. For those of us that offer links to various online image hosting sites, we need to let our members know that the image they created/saved, might not be what is showing. I've particularly noted this with TinyPic. ImageShack seems to be performing pretty well.
My members tend to post a lot of really large "Hello," "Have a good Weekend" etc. type of graphics, and for those, I'm not concerned. Those graphics move on as the days pass. But for Avatars and Sigs, I recommend they always keep an original in their files and keep an eye on their posted graphic in case it seems to be deteroriating so they can delete the old one at Photobucket and load a fresh one. I also instruct them to be sure they use the exact size of the Avatar graphic in their Profile.
I also make sigs and such for my members and have been horrified when they posted the image and gave me credit because it looked like crap. The member was always using TinyPic. TinyPic seems to have a real problem with colored gradients.
I have a free Photobucket site and a paid for one, and it does seem like the Paid one 'behaves' better as far as animated graphics. I went to a paid 'bucket' because I do have some really large files and a paid account lets you load much larger files.
But getting back to the conversation here, it's my opinion that there are no forum codes involved, it's definitely the host of the images.
